Carbonic baths, as a specific treatment for heart patients, have been used since a study by the German physician Dr. Beneke in 1870 as an adjunct treatment in the rehabilitation of cardiovascular diseases. In Hungary, carbonic acid baths have been used systematically for several decades, mainly in the rehabilitation of peripheral vascular diseases and in the treatment of post-infarction conditions.
